| Comments: | I was watching your movie on television and thew wierd thing about that was i was buiilding and designing a model launch pad and future rocket, now i know anyone today can build a model rocket and see how far it can go or launcha egg in the air. My quest goes beyond that. Carl sagan and other icons of space exploration have always been inspiration to me. I look into the sky and dream. I know that there is more than just getting a rocket into the air, but i just cant put my finger on it yet. |

Two years ago, one of my professors at Mississippi State University, where I currently attend, recommended that I read "Rocket Boys". Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. The way Homer wrote it and told the stories of not just six boys, but an entire community, blew me away. I hope someday soon to travel to Coalwood to see the town where some of my heroes once roamed. | Comments: | I just watched "October Sky" again. I had seen it before, but viewed it this time in order to complete an assignment for a graduate class I'm taking. I'm the coordinator of Gifted services in Fauquier County, Virginia. My task was to do an analysis of a character in a book or movie whom I believed to be gifted. Homer Hickam was the first such person to come to mind. It was a pleasure to view the movie again as I watched for gifted characteristics in Homer. They were easy to locate! Homer Hickam and the other Rocket Boys are inspiring to all, and the movie demonstrates what can be accomplished by bright students with vision, drive, perseverance and the support of those who recognize their potential and are willing to provide support. |
